Is Peppermint Oil Safe For Your Lips

Yes, when used correctly, peppermint oil is safe for your lips.

Generally, essential oils, like peppermint oil should not be ingested. This may lead to nausea, vomiting, and heartburn.

However, for the purpose of plumping your lips, you will only be using a drop or two, spread thinly over your lips. So, even if you lick it off, you should be just fine.

As long as you do not keep reapplying it and licking it off every hour.

How Long Does The Lip Plumping Effect Of Peppermint Oil Last

Peppermint oil will not permanently plump your lips. The effects will wear off.

How long lips will remain swollen (the plumping effect) will vary for every person. It will depend on:

  • How much oil is used
  • How thin or thick the person’s lip skin is
  • The person’s immune system (everyone is different and the reaction will be different)

You will need to reapply this oil when you notice that your lips are no longer swollen and as often as you feel is necessary. Again this will vary for every person.

How to Mix Peppermint Oil With A Skin Oil

If you are not a lipgloss or lip balm user, or if you prefer DIY options, you can also mix your peppermint oil with a skin oil preferably a carrier oil.

You can mix 1 or 2 drops of peppermint oil with a tablespoon of carrier oil and then apply it to your lips.

Some of the best oils to use are:

  • Coconut Oil
  • Grapeseed Oil
  • Evening Primrose Oil
